What we collect, why, and for how long
Enquiry
- Data
- Name, e-mail, dates of interest, message. Anti-spam: a hidden field and time-on-form; an excerpt of rejected messages is logged.
- Purpose
- To answer you.
- Legal basis
- Pre-contractual steps at your request (art. 6(1)(b)); spam filtering: legitimate interest (6(1)(f)).
- Required?
- Name, e-mail and message are needed — without them we cannot reply.
- Kept for
- 1 year from your last message, unless it becomes a booking
Booking
- Data
- Name, e-mail, phone (optional), language, dates, adults / children / infants, extras, payment choice, House Rules version accepted, booking reference.
- Purpose
- To take and manage your booking, send your confirmation and balance reminders, and keep the guest register the law requires.
- Legal basis
- Performance of the contract (6(1)(b)); recording your House Rules acceptance: legitimate interest (6(1)(f)); legal obligations (6(1)(c)).
- Required?
- Name, e-mail, dates and guest count are needed — without them there is no booking. Phone is optional.
- Kept for
- 10 years from the end of the stay (French accounting duty, Code de commerce L.123-22)
Payment
- Data
- Card number, expiry, security code and, where Stripe requires it, billing address.
- Purpose
- To collect the deposit and balance.
- Legal basis
- Performance of the contract (6(1)(b)).
- Required?
- Needed to pay.
- Kept for
- Entered and stored only by Stripe on its own pages — card data never reaches our server. We keep only amounts, dates and the booking reference.
Balance and reminders
- Data
- Your e-mail; the payment link carries only the Stripe payment reference, no personal data.
- Purpose
- To collect the balance and warn you before an automatic cancellation.
- Legal basis
- Performance of the contract (6(1)(b)).

- The link stays valid while a balance is owed; we do not store the e-mails sent.
Pricing tool
- Data
- Guest name, stay dates, amounts, booking channel, guest count (passed on by Smoobu).
- Purpose
- To set our nightly prices.

- Per PriceLabs’ policy; we can ask for deletion.
Server logs
- Data
- IP address, browser, page requested, timestamp.
- Purpose
- Security and abuse prevention.

- Web server: 14 days; application logs: a rolling 150 MB per container (3 files of 50 MB), a few months at current traffic.
Fonts and map
- Data
- Your IP address is seen by Google (web fonts) on every page and by OpenStreetMap (the map) on the Contact page.
- Purpose
- To display the page.
- Legal basis
- Legitimate interest (6(1)(f)).

- Per Google’s and the OpenStreetMap Foundation’s policies; no cookie is set.
We never sell or rent your data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Who receives your data
We rely on the following providers, who process data on our behalf and may not use it for their own purposes:
- Stripe Payments Europe Ltd (Ireland (group companies in the USA)) — card payments on its own hosted page; holds the booking record (dates, amounts, name, e-mail, phone). Privacy policy
- Smoobu GmbH (Germany) — booking calendar; receives the reservation (name, e-mail, phone, dates, guests). Privacy policy
- Twilio Inc. (SendGrid) (USA) — delivers our booking and enquiry e-mails. Privacy policy
- Hostinger International Ltd (Cyprus; server in Manchester, United Kingdom) — hosts the website and its server logs. Privacy policy
- PriceLabs (USA) — pricing tool; receives from Smoobu the guest name, stay dates, amounts, channel and guest count. Privacy policy
- Google LLC (Google Fonts) (USA) — serves the web fonts; sees your IP address when they load. Privacy policy
- OpenStreetMap Foundation (United Kingdom) — the map on the Contact page; sees your IP address when it loads. Privacy policy
Transfers outside the European Union
The site’s server is in the United Kingdom, which the European Commission recognises as providing adequate protection. Stripe, Twilio (SendGrid), Google, PriceLabs and the OpenStreetMap Foundation may process data in the USA or the UK; those transfers rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, under each provider’s terms (links above).
Your rights
At any time you may ask for:
- access to the data we hold about you, and a copy of it;
- correction of anything inaccurate;
- erasure, except where the law requires us to keep it (booking records);
- restriction of processing;
- portability of the data you gave us;
- objection to processing based on our legitimate interest.
Write to us at the address above saying what you need; we may ask you to confirm your identity, and we reply within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with the French data-protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr).
Cookies and browser storage
This site uses no tracking cookies, no analytics and no advertising, which is why you are not shown a consent banner. To remember your dates and a half-filled booking form, the page uses your browser’s local storage (localStorage, sessionStorage): that data never leaves your device and is kept 7 days, or 7 days after your departure once dates are chosen; cleared when a booking is confirmed.
The only cookie the site sets is the owner’s admin session (“gite_owner”, valid 7 days) — it is not used for visitors. Stripe’s payment page uses its own cookies, on Stripe’s domain. The only third-party requests your browser makes from this site are to Stripe’s hosted payment page, to Google Fonts, and to the OpenStreetMap map on the Contact page — nothing else.
No automated decisions
We make no automated decisions and do no profiling based on your data.
